International Talk Like A Pirate Day

September 23rd, 2011

International Talk Like a Pirate Day was celebrated at Stanton Library with a fascinating talk by historian Dr Stephen Gapps. “Buccaneers, Mutineers & Slave Traders: Australian Pirate Tales” was the subject of the presentation. We found out about many instances of piracy, successful and unsuccessful, in Australia’s past. Dr Gapps is from the Australian National Martime Museum. He has a particular research interest in the impacts of colonisation on early Sydney, and its various forms of remembrance over time.
